Bases and depots<\/h3>\n

NOFO operates five response bases and two oil spill equipment depots strategically located along the Norwegian coastline. These facilities form a critical part of the national oil spill response infrastructure and enable rapid mobilization of equipment and vessels. The bases are maintained to ensure high readiness across the entire Norwegian Continental Shelf.<\/p>\n

Response vessels<\/h3>\n

NOFO has access to a fleet of vessels that are practiced and trained for round-the-clock operations when needed. Some of the vessels are on permanent standby, i.e. they have oil spill response equipment permanently on board.<\/p>\n

In addition, NOFO has agreements with several terminal vessels, coastal tankers and a number of coastal oil spill response vessels that largely consist of fishing vessels. All of these are exercised regularly and should be able to contribute in a short time.<\/p>\n

Aerial surveillance<\/h3>\n

NOFO and the Norwegian Coastal Administration collaborate on a surveillance aircraft that patrols the Norwegian coast 600-800 hours a year. Remote sensing equipment in the aircraft makes it possible to detect illegal discharges and calculate pollution levels. During operations, aerial surveillance is actively used to detect and map the extent of pollution, and thus where oil spill response efforts should be deployed. This service is carried out in collaboration with the Coast Guard and NOFO.<\/p>\n
